Hi Everyone,

First a big thanks to all of you who were able to join the in-person retreat we (Ian and Elizabeth) led on Dec. 7th in Boulder, Colorado. What a gift of shared experience, wisdom and joy! We are already thinking about what we might offer for our next in-person retreat sometime in the Spring.

If you were not able to attend, you’ll find many of the same themes in this month’s Opening the Aperture video below. This is part of our eight-month video teaching series for paid subscribers and this month we take a mystic’s view of the opening prologue to the Gospel of John. We look at ‘light’ and ‘dark’ and the ways their inextricable intertwining shapes and gives meaning to our lives. Then we turn to Meister Eckhart’s understanding of how the same birth of light and love in John’s gospel is happening in us too. And finally, we discuss some ideas from modern day mystic and writer, Cynthia Bourgeault, for how we can be ‘the light of the world,’ including her work around conscious labor and intentional suffering. The video is about 48 minutes and we hope your own reflections are made richer by it. Below the video, you’ll find a written transcript of the conversation, the audio version, and slides with the quotes we reference. Enjoy!

With love,

Ian and Elizabeth
